How to Install Unicode Encoding software:

  1. Go to website: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=39420&package_id=31585

  1. Click on the "WinVNKey" software that applies to your operating system, saving it into a directory in your computer like D:\Download\Vietnamese. As of October 12, 2005, the following versions are available:

For Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003:

Download wvnkey5.0.372-winnt-nofonts-nomanual.exe

Download wvnkey5.0.355-winnt-with-fonts-and-manual.exe

For Windows 98/ME:

Download wvnkey40beta3-win98-me.exe

For Windows 95:

Download wvnkey40beta3-win95.exe

(Choose the location that's closest to your location.)

  1. Then, go into the folder where you store the 2 programs and double-click "wvnkey40beta3-winnt.exe" first.  This is when WinVNKey is installed into your PC.

One method for using Unicode fonts:

  1. Double-click on WinVNkey icon on your desktop, or go this route: "Start/All Programs/Vietnam/WinVNkey Multi-lingual keyboard".

  1. Select

Charset: "4. Unicode"

            Output Method: "<Automatic>"

            Typing Method: "VIQR - fast"

            Keyboard Mode: "Auto combine (Viet)"

  1. Open MS Word or MS Outlook and start typing Vietnamese.  Choose new Fonts like "Times New Roman", "Arial" and "Courier New".  When putting dia-critical marks using "VIQR - fast," use this technique:

Ư/Ơ:                        + (press this key first, then press another diacritical mark such as a period if needed)

Â/Ê:                        ^ (press this key first, then press another diacritical mark such as a period if needed)

Ð:                        DD, dd, hay Dd (press D twice)

Ă:                        ( (press this key first, then press another diacritical mark such as a period if needed)

Sắc:                         ' (single quote)

Huyền:                        ` (located below the tilde, on the north-east corner of your keyboard)

Hổi:                        ?

Ngã:                        ~ (tilde, located on the north-east corner of the keyboard)

Nặng:                        . (period)

When you don't want automatic Vietnamese encoding, press <Esc> before you press a would-be diacritical mark.

            Example:

To get this sentence:  Chúa Yê-su đến để cứu mình khỏi ngục tù.

Type these keys:  Chu'a Ye^-su dde^'n dde^? Cu+'u mi`nh kho?i ngu.c tu`.<Esc>.
